Hello!

I am a classically trained soprano turned belter, and I am living proof that you can learn to sing in new ways. I’ve been teaching voice for 7 years, and have worked with singers at all levels: from beginners to professionals. I am committed to helping my students develop sustainable singing habits.

I believe singing is a learned skill, and I have seen this in action. Just like you can learn to play a sport, you can learn how to be a vocal athlete. My teaching style is holistic and science-based. I have a master’s in vocal pedagogy, and have learned from some of the top voice professionals about how the voice works. I teach the whole singer, not just the singing voice. Physical and mental health directly affect your vocal health, and I ALWAYS take those factors into consideration when I’m teaching. My goal for you is to have a balanced, healthy voice that allows you to fully express yourself in any style. I primarily work with musical theatre singers, but I also have students who sing pop, jazz, country, and classical.

JoAnne’s Credentials

JoAnne holds a Master’s Degree in vocal pedagogy (all the science-y stuff about singing). She is also a singer-songwriter and a performer herself!

JoAnne has been onstage since she was 3 years old, and loves music more than anything. She discovered after finishing undergrad that she also deeply loves teaching, and chose to pursue higher education so that she can provide the highest level of support for her students.

JoAnne has also worked with students post-vocal injury and helped them get back parts of their voice that they lost.

As a performer, JoAnne loves singing musical theatre repertoire. JoAnne has also been writing since the age of 7, and loves the process of creating new music.

JoAnne is also a 200 hour certified yoga teacher and incorporates elements of yoga into her teaching. This was a part of her research in grad school, and she loves carrying that knowledge and research into her teaching now.

A Note from JoAnne

My #1 priority is that my students develop more confidence in their singing and more confidence in themselves. Singing is an extremely vulnerable activity; it’s actually one of the most vulnerable things we can do as humans. When you sing, you’re sharing your voice AND you’re expressing yourself through music. It’s expression on a whole other level from speaking. I fully recognize this, and my studio is a safe place for you to share your voice.

Your voice is NEVER wrong. My job is to help you develop more freedom and efficiency in your voice so that you can more fully express yourself in multiple styles. Whether you choose to do that on a stage or in the shower, your voice still matters.

Love, JoAnne
